The solution to CEO pay? Charge people to be CEO.

I just ran across an article by Mark Cuban about CEO pay and how stock and options have distorted it beyond all recognition. I go a step further and suggest … well, read for yourself.

Using Twitter as a research tool! Follow me…

What a great idea! Twitter is a little one-to-many text messaging tool. I can send out a text message to Twitter, and everyone who has elected to “follow” me gets the message. The intent of Twitter is that you send out a message answering the question, “what are you doing right now?”
Initially, it was fun. [...]

Difficult divorce makes reconcilitation unlikely…in business

I upgraded to a LinkedIn premium membership last year when I wanted to use it to make a couple of introductions. It was interesting, but hasn’t become a staple of my networking strategy. After paying $240 over a year, it seemed prudent to downgrade back to a free account.
Unfortunately, LinkedIn provides several automated ways to [...]

The whole subprime mortgage mess, explained.

A friend pointed me to this simple graphic in the Washington Post that explains the whole subprime mortgage mess. Have you seen “The Story of Stuff?”

Check out http://www.TheStoryOfStuff.com. It’s a bit heavy-handed in places, but if you watch it with an open mind, she makes some really good points about consumer culture. The planned obsolescence bit, while obvious, was something I’d never really thought about in terms of the global “material economy.”

When is password security not security?

In a wondrous attempt to increase security, more and more vendors are now requiring me to choose passwords of many characters with mixed case, numbers and punctuation. My bank does one better, where I have five different question/answer combinations they ask, then once I’ve passed their quiz, they display an image that I’m supposed [...]

Local business defines roles, responsibilities!

I just had a post go up on the Huffington Post’s 236.com humor blog. Check out my satirical article on a local business defining its roles and responsibilities.
